Valeria Castillo
Adjunct Professor, Bachelor in Design and Innovation
Designer and researcher specializing in interactive experiences, digital autoethnography, and contemporary technological cultures. She is an associate professor at Elisava, where she teaches the course “Self Data” as part of the Bachelor in Interactive Experiences, exploring the relationship between identity, personal data, and digital narrative.
She has collaborated with Medialab Matadero on the “Latent Intimacies” project, within the Synthetic Minds collaborative prototyping lab, and has carried out design and research work at Foodture Barcelona, focusing on speculative futures, social innovation, and new technological imaginaries.
Her Bachelor’s Thesis, “My iPhone is my Mother,” which won an award in the Information category at the 2023 Ei! Awards, was presented at the Bauhaus University Weimar. The research explores how bodies, languages, and emotions are transformed through digital mediation, using an autoethnographic and critical methodology.
She has also worked as a product designer at TMB, developing a patented product to improve accessibility in the Barcelona metro using recycled materials, while integrating principles of circularity and inclusion.
A graduate in Design from Elisava, she furthered her education at Johannes Kepler University Linz as part of the University Festival at the Ars Electronica Festival, specializing in art, technology, and society.
