Two projects from master students awarded at the Young Ones Student Awards 2024

Two projects by students of the Master in Visual Design and the Master in Editorial Design were awarded, last May 13, at the Young Student Awards in New York, one of the most renowned contests aimed at advertising, interactive design and design students. Since 1986, the contest challenges students to put their best foot forward in hopes of winning one of the first honors of their recently begun careers.

The awarded projects were the following:

Grundtvig Typeface by Reinaldo Camejo Student Bronze Cube on the Typography / Typeface category

Grundtvig Typeface is an experimental typeface inspired by the Grundtvig Kirke located in Copenhagen, Denmark. Distinctive elements of the iconic west facade of the building were taken to design this typographic system, such as the verticality of the structure, the stepped gables contours and the arches present in the doors. The typography is characterized by bold, geometric forms that reflect the building’s strong lines and the geometric shapes.

The U.S.M. to M. and M. C. by Rana Wassef and Thomas Suadicani Student Merit on the Publication Design / Books category

The book called “The Unreliable Scientific Method to Memory and Material Culture” is structured as a traditional science experiment following the six steps of: Question, Research, Hypothesis, Experiment, Analysis and Conclusion. It starts with a photo essay extracted and based on the scientific experiment by K. A. Wade, proving that false memories can be implanted. In the research section we dive into scientific literature explaining how memory functions and fails. In the final part, starting at the hypothesis, we approach the content in a speculative manner creating artifacts that could absurdly fix the human memory.
