The students of the Bachelor in Design present some proposals of climatic shelters for Ciutat Vella

The students of first year of the Bachelor in Design and Innovation have presented their designs for the project ‘Ombratge Efímer’ in the Pati de les Dones of Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB). An initiative promoted by La Traginera Comunalitat Urbana de Ciutat Vella, which includes, among other institutions and entities, Impulsem, CCCB, Fundació Tot Raval and La Boqueria Taller d’Arquitectura.

A real challenge that La Traginera has assigned to Bachelor students and that must meet some objectives: firstly, the design of a mobile and modular device that would provide shade and climatic comfort in Pati de les Dones of CCCB; secondly, that the resulting systems or devices could be moved and used in other spaces of the neighborhood, for example, in case of exceptional events; and, thirdly, that these devices had a solar energy collection point to raise awareness in the neighborhood about the importance of community-based management of energy.

The students have presented at CCCB their models and panels in front of Elisava faculty and institutional representatives of Ciutat Vella, and have also explained first-hand some of their proposals in a podcast of Ràdio Elisava recorded live at CCCB, in which Danae Esparza, PhD, Head of Studies of the Bachelor in Design and Innovation, and Vanessa Cayuela, representative of La Traginera have also participated. The project ‘Ombratge efímer’ will start a second phase at the end of June, with a workshop at Impulsem to develop some of the proposed designs, and will conclude with a third phase, next autumn, in which some of the best proposals of the students will be produced.
