The project ‘HUG’, by students of the Degree in Design, winner of the Habitàcola Awards of ARQUIN-FAD
(News updated on June 12, 2024)
On June 11, the renowned FAD Awards for Architecture and Interior Design announced the winning projects of its 66th edition. From a total of 415 works submitted to the competition, 34 have been awarded. Among them are two projects by Elisava.
The Habitácola Awards were created in 1987 to promote reflection on new theoretical frameworks in the fields of design and architecture. The competition is aimed at students with the objective of disseminating the importance of creativity, social commitment and professional rigor among organizations and the general public. In this edition, a reflection on the design of public transport waiting micro-spaces, whether in rural or urban environments, is proposed, helping students to enter the professional world.
The students of the Degree in Design and Innovation Júlia Berenguer Sellés, Laura Nicolás Coso, Paloma Pérez Soler, tutorized by Daniel Lorenzo, have designed the HUG bus stop, which responds to the need to design future bus stops and adapt to the changes of the new times. HUG is conceived as an innovative design in which to understand the bus stop not only as a pedestrian-transportation connection space, but as a meeting place for all kinds of needs in public space.
The jury, formed by architect Daria de Seta as president and Roger Badia Rafart, Anna Torndelacreu Roig and Laura Blanch as members, awarded the prize to the project, highlighting the high ethical intrinsic value in the positioning of the proposal. The solution manages to bet for an economy of resources without renouncing to the clarity and expressive forcefulness, nor renouncing to the possibility of adaptation to the different contexts and needs that the bases suggest.
On the other hand, the FAD Thought and Critique Award, which this year celebrates its 19th edition and bring together the best texts dedicated to architecture published throughout the year 2023, have awarded the prize ‘ex aequo’ to the book La Casa Fullà. Tot estava per fer i tot era posible, a work by Elisava’s teacher Ramon Faura together with Ana M. Briongos, Lluís Clotet, Josep M. Rovira and Òscar Tusquets.
The jury, composed of the architect and doctor in architecture Javier Fernández Contreras as president, and the members Marta Poch and Roger Subirà, considered that the book reviews the paradigmatic building of Studio PER with a choral vision that does not shy away from criticism and includes the temporal perspective. The book contrasts expectations with realities, and its reading is relevant at the present time, as it shares an assertive reflection that can serve as a counterpoint to the sometimes ingenuous visions that accompany the discourse around cooperative housing.
The winning works have been chosen from among the 7 finalist projects out of a total of 53 works submitted to the competition.
