Oscar Tomico, PhD
Head of Studies of the Degree in Engineering in Industrial Design
PhD Oscar Tomico is head of the Design Engineering Bachelor program at ELISAVA Design and Engineering school, Assistant Professor in the Designing Quality in Interaction Research Group, working in the Wearable Senses Lab at Eindhoven University of Technology. Current projects focus on the textile industry and involve stakeholders during the design process to create ultra-personalized smart textile services in the form of soft wearables or soft interiors.
He is work package leader on the ArcInTexETN (2015), a partner in the Fibrous Smart Material Topologies (3TU.Bouw 2016) and in the Crafting Wearables research project (CLICK 2013). He has been project leader of the Smart Textile Services project of the Dutch Creative Industry Scientific Program (CRISP 2011) and From Design Fiction to Material Science (KIEM 2015).
He has been a guest researcher and lecturer at the Textile and design lab part of the AUT Creative technologies program (2015), at the National Taiwan University (NTU) and TaiwanTech (NTUST) (Taiwan 2015), Swedish School of Textiles (Sweden 2013, 2014, 2015), ESDI (Spain 2013, 2014), Institute of Advanced Architecture (Spain, 2013, 2014, 2015), University of Tsukuba and at Chiba University (Japan, 2007, 2008), Aalto (Finland, 2006, 2007), ELISAVA (Spain, 2010), Luka (Belgium, 2012, 2013).
He co-organized the Careful Designs and Hypercrafting Fashion events (Waag Sociecy, Amsterdam, 2012, 2013, 2014), Baltan Open Lab: Wearable Senses workshops and exhibition (NATLAB, Eindhoven, 2013, 2014), eTextile Sweatshop (Rotterdam V2_, 2012), Crafting Wearables breakout session in The Future of Fashion is Innovation (MoBA, Arnhem, 2013) and Smart services, smart production, smart textiles (Disseny Hub Barcelona, 2016).
He has been moderator in the Craftism Design Debates (Design Academy Eindhoven, 2012) and the ‘Soft Wearables’ debate (MindTheStep exhibition, 2015). He curated the “Systems Design – Eindhoven School” exhibition at DHUB (Barcelona, 2012) and the “Smart Textiles – Wearable Services” exhibition at TextielMuseum (Tilburg, 2015).
