Josep Puig
Adjunct Professor, Bachelor in Industrial Design Engineering and Director of the Master in Design and Product Development
With a consolidated career in the field of industrial design, Josep Puig Cabeza combines teaching, research, and professional practice. He holds a Bachelor in Industrial Design from Elisava and has a strong academic background, including a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in Design from the University of Southampton, a Master in Interdisciplinary Studies in Design and Communication (Elisava-UPF), and a Postgraduate in Design Research and Management from ISEC (Portugal).
At Elisava, he teaches in the Bachelor in Industrial Design Engineering, where he also supervises Final Degree Projects, and participates in postgraduate programs such as the Postgraduate in Product Concept. He has also supervised workshops and projects in collaboration with companies and institutions such as Benito Urban, RC Sailing Barcelona, and the CSIO Barcelona Equestrian Challenge.
His professional career began with the founding of the experimental design team Transatlàntic (1984–1989), together with Ramon Benedito and Lluís Morillas. He later became a partner at Novell/Puig Design (1992–2009) and, since 2010, has led his own studio, Puig[i]Cabeza Design, developing design projects across different fields.
He has been actively involved in ADI-FAD as a member and board member in different periods, contributing to the promotion of design at a national level.
His research activity focuses on the history of design and the evolution of the discipline in Spain, participating in international conferences and symposia. His contributions include presentations at the ICDHS Conference and the Fundació Història del Disseny symposia, addressing topics such as experimental design, the relationship between design and gastronomy, and the role of design in the construction of identities.
He is co-author of the book “Cuando el diseño se hizo profesión. Los albores del diseño industrial en España” (Experimenta Libros, 2024), contributing a critical and historical perspective on the development of industrial design.
