Dr. Josep Burgaya
Lecturer, University Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Design and Communication (MUEDIC)
PhD in Contemporary History from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Josep Burgaya is Dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication at the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) and a full professor specialising in social sciences, economics, and communication.
Throughout his academic career, he has taught subjects including Economic History, Economics, Contemporary Thought, and Media Systems Structure across various undergraduate programmes. He played a key role in the creation of the Faculty of Business and Communication, serving as its first Dean between 1997 and 2003, and has also been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fundació Universitària Balmes.
His professional experience combines academia, public administration, and business management. Between 2003 and 2011, he held several positions in local government, including Deputy Mayor for Economy and Finance of the City of Vic and President of the Municipal Institute for Promotion and Economy of Vic (IMPEVIC), where he promoted initiatives supporting entrepreneurship, innovation, and regional economic development. He has also held executive roles in companies and organisations linked to environmental and waste management.
He is the author of numerous articles and publications on history, economics, politics, higher education, tourism, and social transformation. His books include La economía del absurdo (Joan Fuster Essay Award 2013), Adiós a la soberanía política, La manada digital, Tiempos de confusión, and Homo Movens. He has also participated as a guest lecturer in courses, seminars, and conferences at universities across Spain and Latin America.
His research and dissemination work focuses on analysing the economic, social, technological, and cultural transformations shaping contemporary societies.
