Dr. Joan Jordi Miralles
Associate Lecturer, Bachelor in Design and Innovation
He holds a PhD in Film Theory, Analysis and Documentation from Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where he defended the thesis The Resistance of the Void: Ruin, Body and Obscene Gesture in the Work of Ciprì and Maresco, awarded with Excellent cum laude. His research explores the relationships between the body, ruin, obscenity, and representation in contemporary cinema.
He previously obtained a Diploma of Advanced Studies with a thesis on post-apocalyptic visions in the work of Ciprì and Maresco, and holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication from Universitat Ramon Llull. He also has training in Physiotherapy, a background that enriches his perspective on the body and performativity.
Academic and specialized teaching
Since 2010, he has been teaching at IDEP Barcelona, where he has delivered courses in visual narrative, audiovisual language, and low-budget productions across undergraduate, postgraduate, and master’s programmes. He is currently a lecturer in the Master’s Degree in Documentary and Artistic Photography, where he focuses on iconographic and audiovisual language.
He has also taught in institutions and programmes such as:
– Catalan Federation of Film Societies / Barcelona Provincial Council: workshops on Chaplin, cinema and literature
– Escola Groc d’Arts Plàstiques i Disseny: image theory, history of photography and audiovisual studies
– Ciutart / A Bao A Qu / CCCB: photography and cinema workshops within Magnum. 10 sequences
– IES Sant Vicenç de Castellet: film workshop for secondary education
His teaching combines theory, analysis, and practice, with a methodology focused on the critical reading of images and the narrative capacity of cinema.
