Francesc Ribot, PhD
Lecturer, Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Design and Innovation
With a Bachelor in Design from the Eina School, a Master’s in Heritage Collection Management from the University of Barcelona, and a PhD in Design from the University of Southampton, Francesc Ribot combines his teaching and research activities with consulting in visual identity and branding.
He has over thirty years of professional experience in brand and packaging design for service and consumer goods companies, as well as in the management and preservation of heritage collections related to design.
In the academic sphere, he is the Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Design and Innovation at Elisava and a professor in the bachelor’s degree and various master’s programs at the school, where he had previously held coordination and academic leadership responsibilities as head of the Graphic Design Department. His teaching work has extended to other Catalan universities in subjects related to brand identity design and visual communication.
In the field of research, he focuses his interest on the study of brands and their visual representation. His doctoral thesis analyzed formal mimicry in brands and proposed a typological classification and a digital tool to facilitate its integration into the design process. In his Master’s Thesis, he addresses the management and enhancement of design archives and collections, foreshadowing a career that combines heritage, research, and professional practice in graphic design. He is currently also promoting initiatives for the conservation and digitization of graphic and brand heritage through the Elisava Historical Archive.
