María has a degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of León and a doctorate from the University of Barcelona. After his PhD, he joined the Waag Society in Amsterdam as a laboratory technician, where she helped artists and designers to develop their projects in the fields of bioart and biodesign. Since 2016, María has been a researcher and a professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium, and head of the Laboratorium, the experimental laboratory for art, design and biotechnology. His main line of research revolves around new ways of approaching the field of colour: from the search, production and application of sustainable materials, to their use as a common language between art and science. During this process, she has collaborated with a multitude of artists and scientists, and her work has been disseminated in both areas. Within Elisava, María is a teacher in the Master in Design through New Materials, where she introduces the use of various microorganisms such as bacteria, microalgae and fungi for the production of colour.
