Students of the Bachelor in Design collaborate with POTT for their Final Degree Projects
The students of the Product Design mention in the Bachelor in Design have collaborated with POTT in their Final Degree Projects. Ceramics, with its endless possibilities, becomes the main focus of this initiative, which invites them to combine tradition and technology to innovate in the interaction between light and materials, experimenting with textures, transparencies, and opacities. A project where craftsmanship and innovation dialogue to create pieces that reimagine the perception of light through ceramics.
Here we present the projects:
Ventus, from the Latin word for wind. This project focuses on the creation of a design of ceramic pieces, inspired by the textures of the Dunes of Corralejo, Fuerteventura. I, as the author, a native of the island, seek to convey the emotional connection and nostalgia for my home through unique and exclusive pieces that can end up becoming candleholders, being not only decorative but also functional pieces. The project addresses the issue of nostalgia for the lack of opportunities for personal growth on smaller islands, offering pieces that evoke the textures of sand and remind me of home.
The project Les formes de les esquerdes is an experiment with red clay to create cracks using two techniques: the fermentation of bread dough and a chemical solution called sodium silicate. The study is divided into two parts: the analysis of cracks in Catalan natural spaces and personal experimentation with red clay. The aim is to create pieces that highlight the beauty of cracks and natural environments while raising awareness about drought. The result is a diverse collection of pieces and an editorial work documenting the processes and results obtained.
OA merges architecture, art, and ceramics under the concepts of full and empty to capture the play of light in a lattice. Its simple design, inspired by the basic figures of geometry, creates a dynamic visual experience. The strategic arrangement of full and empty spaces invites light to filter through, generating light and shadows that transform the surface into a moving canvas.
Its square shape offers a variety of placement possibilities, amplifying the multiplicity of perspectives. This versatility invites the viewer to explore the work in which, from the same point of view, different angles appear, discovering new aesthetic experiences with each glance.
Conca represents the textures of the Mediterranean coast in ceramics, capturing its organic essence. The tile collection for Pott Project focuses on experimentation with ceramics and light, reflecting the movement of the sea. The transportation of the natural texture to the walls seeks to create environments connected to nature, imbuing the space with emotive essences and a sense of calm.
Lumina is a capsule collection of table lamps made from ceramic and blown glass. The proposal, framed within the ‘Experimental Craftsmanship’ initiative, aims to investigate new ways of fusing artisanal production with industrial design, enriching the Pott Project catalogue. This project delves into the tension between life and death, exploring how form and materiality can transform spaces and evoke emotional responses. Through the interplay between delicate glass and robust ceramics, each lamp in the collection highlights the ephemeral nature of existence and the impact of artistic expression on the human experience.
This project follows the experimentation with a new plant texture to promote the conservation and importance of ceramic craftsmanship. It is an experimental project that also includes a conceptual part. The experimental and practical part involves the search for a texture by incorporating plant materials at different points in the process of creating a ceramic object, looking for an inspiring result in relation to light to integrate it into a lamp. At the same time, we carried out research into ceramic craftsmanship, highlighting the importance of its conservation. We developed the project following values that define this craft tradition.
