28 Sep 2022

Once again this year, several projects created by students from Elisava’s Master in Packaging Design have been recognised in the latest edition of the Pentawards Awards, the most prestigious international competition in the area of packaging design.

In its 16th year, this packaging design competition has received more than 2,000 participants from over 60 countries around the world. Among them, Spain has been the third country with the highest number of awards. In particular, eight works from Elisava have won a Pentawards award in different categories:

Zero Waste Packaging
Project by Lesley Batista, Martí Garcés and Trinidad Mosso
Tutored by Isaac Salom and Clara de Sousa

This project, under the slogan “Logical is ecological”, represents an alternative to single-use packaging and blister packs, by presenting a toothbrush wrapped in a meltable bioplastic, which can be reused as the handle of the toothbrush, thus minimising its environmental impact.

Solsticio
Project by Gina Cansell and Clara Vendrell
Tutored by Asa Cook and Clara de Sousa

Solsticio takes a limited winter edition of Tequila Patrón as the starting point for its packaging design, which looks back to the roots of Mexican culture, specifically the Aztec tradition of Panquetzaliztli, the annual celebration of the winter solstice. Both the textures and shapes of the bottle and the illustrations on the box are influenced by this pagan, traditional and astral imagery.

Makaria
Project by Alvaro García and Clara Vendrell
Tutored by Jon Marín

The Makaria project is committed to sustainability by presenting packaging made from a wheat sub-product that is not edible and would otherwise be wasted. The fresh frozen pasta is presented in a package whose top part has illustrations of the corresponding type of pasta. This concept is an alternative to plastic packaging which recycles waste, is biodegradable and can serve as an inspiration for brands seeking to align themselves with sustainability values.

Project by Ariadna Aymerich, Nagore Celada and Rebeca Fernández
Tutored by Asa Cook and Clara de Sousa

Peunu
Project by Gina Cansell and Elisabet Sau
Tutored by Emili Padrós and Ion Elola, in collaboration with La Casa de Carlota

These two students present a packaging design for Peunu, a sustainable brand of sandals handcrafted on the Mediterranean coast. Their motto is minimalism: footwear as similar as possible to walking barefoot. The brand identity and personality was created in collaboration with La Casa de Carlota, a creative and innovative studio integrated by designers with intellectual diversity, with whom they conducted a series of workshops where they explored together the nature and diversity of feet.

Timpers
Project by Ariadna Aymerich, Nagore Celada and Rebeca Fernández
Tutored by Emili Padrós and Ion Elola, in collaboration with La Casa de Carlota.

In collaboration with La Casa de Carlota, this design project is about creating a shoebox for Timpers, a brand of footwear designed by blind people only through touch. It aims to give touch the relevance that is usually given to sight. To this end, besides specific materials and textures, the box has information in Braille, to offer the same experience to all people, regardless of whether they have a visual impairment or not.

Mil Días
Project by Sonia Flores, Maria Alejandra Hernández and Angel Peñafiel
Tutored by Jesús Alonso, Miquel Campmany and Eva Minguella

Mil Días is a design campaign focused on one of Spain’s culinary treasures: Iberian ham. This group of students has designed a Tasting Gift Box, which contains a selection of the best Iberian ham, complemented with Tiffany&Co utensils, so that every bite can be enjoyed. Mil Días includes two other types of packaging: one designed to serve the ham cut in the shape of a diamond at prestigious events, and another in which the same ham is cut into thin slices for a more traditional tasting.
