Phygital Transformations

The research of this center focuses on social innovation through design of socio-technical systems with the objective of understanding how digital technologies support systemic changes in society, providing ethical and meaningful applications of technology and extending and distributing intelligence, as well as favoring social, cultural and critical thinking.

The research lines are:
  • Digital design artifacts: We study how to design innovative UX interfaces, VR/AR systems, electronic devices, digitalization of processes and performances.
  • Digital design systems: We investigate the structural, systemic and social and ethical effects of the development of new digital technologies and AI, taking into account equality, diversity, inclusion, gender aspects.
  • Digital transformation: We study how designing digital technologies impact over the transformation of places, social networks, organizations in both urban and rural contexts with user-centered and community-centered methodologies.
  • Systemic social innovation: Building social cohesion, developing and integrating with communities, contemplating inclusiveness and gender aspects, as well as stimulating urban development, its infrastructure, regeneration and maintenance.
