Jose F López-Aguilar

Jose F López-Aguilar is a designer passionate about ecology, materials and storytelling. He studied Industrial Design Engineering at Elisava (2003-2006) and the Master in Environmental Sciences at the UAB (2008-2010).
He is currently doing his doctoral thesis on Materials Science at the UPC, in collaboration with Elisava Research, and the UNESCO Chair on “Life Cycle and Climate Change on the experiential properties of recycled plastics”. He is a professor at the Elisava school and other design schools and responsible for the “Cuaderno eco” section of the RBA Architecture and Design magazine since 2014. Co-author of the book “Mater in progress, new materials, new industry” (2008 / ed FAD) and a chapter from the book “Selection of materials in the design process” by Javier Peña (2009 / ed CGP). He is the founder and creative director of OiKo Design Office, specialized in research, conceptualization and development of solutions that promote the transition towards a circular economy and the common good. Taking the materials as the main axis, the ecosystem and the emotional experience work so that companies, institutions and users participate in the evolution towards a more sustainable and more effective society. He has won the Stylepark Award’19, the Red Dot Award ’18, the Green Product Award ’18, selected at the Delta Awards ’18 and has been awarded at the Ibero-American Design Biennial’18, which appears in the Premi de Catalunya de Ecodisseny ’15 and the ADi ’12 medal with projects related to design for recycling and design from recycling in which matter is the protagonist, whether in the form of waste or material.
