Temes de Disseny #40 The Role of the Designer in Society: Ethical, Theoretical and Practical Perspectives

The latest issue of Temes de Disseny has asked professionals of design, educators, and academics to re-evaluate the role of the contemporary designer through three differentiated layers: ethics, theory, and practice. ‘Ethics’ examines the role of the designer in addressing complex issues and their implementation in various design spaces. As design theory has emerged to form a new sub-discipline, we have asked for articles that highlight its contribution, both in terms of broader classical theoretical dilemmas and those related to the practice of design itself. Finally, we have sought to include case studies that address the role of the designer in society through ‘real life’ scenarios that present processes involving all spaces of design practice. The articles invite us to reflect on how global changes have challenged the role of design in society, highlighting the urgent need to transform its practice to make it more meaningful and effective in today’s context.

Temes de Disseny #40 is a major milestone in the history of the journal, which has evolved over four decades to become a leading indexed academic journal (Q1 in Scopus, 2023).
