Creative transversal competencies as a link between higher education in product design and the company. Elisava’s case study. Following the signing of the Bologna Declaration and, with it, the creation of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), different academic and competence studies have been developed with the aim of reducing the gap between professional practice and theoretical education. The aim is to enable students to acquire the skills, abilities and competences required in the professional world.

The exploration of the study area, the creative industries and the extensive professional and teaching experience of the author of the research allowed her to adopt an intermediate position between professional and academic activities. In this way, it was possible to observe the characteristics of the discipline of design and the professional activities that interact through the design process and the speciality of product design. Using a methodology with a qualitative, quantitative, interventionist and non-interventionist approach, intuition was channelled and supported by a review of the specific literature. A preliminary analysis of the problem led to determining the particular contextual framework in which the events took place. Through this analysis and the previous results of a series of in-depth interviews with experts in higher education, product design and the professional sector, a guide for the research activity was visualised.

Keywords: design, creative competences, higher education, product design, business, professional activity.
