Pompeii House
‘Pompeii House’ is the contemporary response to the renovation of a traditional textile factory building. This project is based on the Roman houses of Pompeii, but drawing on their purest essence: controlling visitors through the use of waiting courtyards. In this way, the courtyards are used as filters that allow a view of the building but prevent access to its entire volume.
This project is a loft for a diplomat in which the space is enhanced through a combination of contemporary functionality and the elegant character of the Pompeian tradition. The decisions respond to the concern for the warehouse as the protagonist and the courtyards as tools for delimitation. The filters of light and darkness that are generated throughout the house set a rhythm and provide a clear reading of the volume.
