Through the exhibition ‘Inviting Life’ the authors proposed a re-reading of Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich’s Pavilion based on its constituent materials. They explored the changes that transform materials by natural effects from the study of travertine slabs.

The Pavilion’s relationship with nature is somehow interrupted by the exhaustive maintenance it receives every day so it stays clean, pristine, mythical, with an invariable aspect and a prefixed image despite being on a mountain. The effect of the garden’s biotope on the Pavillion’s materials and the links to other organic agents create an imbalance, a tension that the project explores.
