‘Estraperlo’ is a project born out of the contrast between two extreme contexts: the scarcity of post-war Spain and today’s abundance. A perfume as a sensory object, but also as an archive, a critical gesture, and an act of memory. Its name, taken from the black market that operated during the Franco regime, is no coincidence: it evokes the hidden, the desired, that which was obtained with effort and used with care.
But the project is not limited to the object. From the beginning, ‘Estraperlo’ has sought to generate a critical and documentary experience that gives space to real stories. That is why it is also built on the testimonies of people who lived through the post-war period: their sensory memory, their everyday gestures, their deprivations.
