Covanguard
‘Covanguard’ is an innovative interior design project that reimagines the historic Unió de Cooperadors in Gavà as a dynamic artist residency. Rooted in its architectural heritage, it draws inspiration from the region’s Neolithic mines, particularly the industrial solidity of mining structures, which once ensured excavation stability.
This concept is transposed into an adaptive, multi-layered workspace that fosters artistic exploration. By merging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary digital fabrication, ‘Covanguard’ facilitates creative dialogue, allowing artists to engage with excavated artefacts—most notably Gavà variscite—as a source of inspiration. The result is a dynamic environment that bridges past and future through material and spatial innovation.
