In any type of creative work, whether design, data analysis, engineering, advertising, etc., professionals face the need to show their ideas, results, work, conclusions, projects and similar works before an audience. This audience is usually full with supervisors, professors , bosses or clients. What is the most effective way to approach this process?
Although in business schools presentation skills and communication in public are essential to train professionals, the creative professional rarely receives training to perform this activity, even though it could be considered unexpected if you take on account that every freelancer, creative worker or student has to present projects or ideas as a mandatory part of their work on a daily basis.
What are the specific presentation techniques for a meeting with bosses or clients? How can you present properly on a stage with audiovisual support? How can a student face the presentation of their thesis project? This course is designed to provide the creative profile participant (designers, engineers, etc.) with a set of skills that will prepare them to communicate effectively any type of project. From basic principles of pitching, body language or public expression; to protocol meetings, Keynote and narrative of presentations. This Summer School course aims to offer a whole series of tools that, beyond the academic profile, will give the student the skills to face the labour market in a safe and confident way.
What is the most effective way to approach this process? A recent study shows that many professionals dedicate weeks of work to work on the accuracy of an assignment, but the vast majority just spends time to prepare the presentation itself, because this is the moment when the fate of your project will be decided.
These presentations are considered as situations of high risk, and nowadays are carried out in a short time and orally and in formal or informal situations.. Fortunately, the presentation of slides and the reading of the texts that go with them is no longer enough; the presenter must have not only the control of oratory and body language, but communication skills, narrative, storytelling...
Our subject based on presentations will train students in different technical and content aspects, will teach them how to structure the information using storytelling, how to capture the attention of the listener using pitching techniques, how to go through the different phases of the presentation itself, the body language to use while presenting or following up on the project and its results.
- Train to communicate with effectiveness and the necessary depth contents or ideas.
- Learn to structure and clearly communicate the message, data, proposals and conclusions that you want to transmit using narrative tools such as storytelling.
- Help define your own style of presentation based on your personality and style
- Project your personality and style in other personal digital resources (web, blog, networks, etc.) the "voice", language, values and message that the student wishes to transmit.
- Get rid of the artificiality of language and develop, through coaching, a style of communication appropriate to the personality of the student and the type of presentations to be made.
- Develop the ability to inspire the receiver /viewer, by adding the above resources.
- Work, in workshop format, a personalised presentation of each student so that they leave the course with applied and concrete knowledge, adjusted to their needs.
Structure and Contents
Pitching and Short Presentations
Pitching is a "micro-sales technique" very useful in brief meetings, personal presentations and to open labor relations; The objective is to give a personal impression to a potential client or collaborator, briefly present our professional profile or project and achieve a later meeting, which is the real door to new opportunities.
Every professional will face countless meetings throughout their his career, but that does not prevent mistakes of protocol, presentation and communication being made again and again. In this part, we will use elements such as the "five phases of a meeting" to ensure the success of the objectives that we impose before entering.
Presentations with audiovisual support
The presentation before a reduced audience (in a meeting room) or large (on a stage) is another challenge that will face any professional throughout his career. We will study a series of proven techniques to focus on the presentation itself, the underlying discourse and our objectives.
Expression and communication in public
As a complement to the previous proposals, what is commonly called "public speaking" involves specific techniques designed to show security in diction and project force with body language while the issuer feels calm, relaxed and safe, all essential in order to show confidence.
