UVic-UCC, fourth best Catalan university according to THE World University Rankings

Date:

The University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) is considered the fourth best Catalan university according to THE World University Rankings (WUR) by Times Higher Education, in its new 2023 edition. The UVic-UVV already entered the ranking a year ago, and is now ranked between positions 501 and 600a of 1799 public and private universities, moving up 137 positions compared to the last edition. It is also considered the seventh best university in Spain out of 55 universities. The Open University of Catalonia, the Ramon Llull University and the University of Valencia are also in the same range of positions.

Such a change of place with respect to last year, when it was ranked between 401 and 500a, is no coincidence, but is the result of including a greater number of higher education institutions in the international ranking. Also, since this year three more universities have been incorporated into the national ranking, UVic-UCC is one position behind with respect to the previous edition, when it was classified as the sixth best university in Spain.

One of the best scores in the scientific citation indicator

THE WUR ranking, one of the most important at international scale, is based on the analysis of 13 indicators that cover the areas of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and internationalisation. In particular, the UVic-UCC has stable results in all indicators, with an especially good position for citations in indexed journals, achieving the 123a position and 91.6 points, 1.6 more than last year.

The result also remains stable in the teaching indicators, with 16.1 points; research, with 12 points; knowledge transfer, with 37.9 points, and internationalisation, with 59.7 points. Regarding the overall score derived from all indicators, the UVic-UCC gets between 39.3 and 42 points, and so remains in the same range as it did a year ago.

The UVic-UCC in other rankings

The UVic-UCC is present in two other rankings of Times Higher Education, which creates university rankings to evaluate the global performance of higher education institutions. Firstly, it has been included in The Impact Ranking, which assesses the progress universities are making in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Secondly, it is also listed in the Young University Rankings, which considered it the third best young university in Catalonia and Spain last year, ranking 131st position at international scale.
