Studying interior design

Date:

Do you like to pay attention to the decorative options around you? Do you have good taste when it comes to decorating? Are you thinking of studying interior design? If you have answered yes to the above questions, this post is of interest to you! We will tell you everything you need to consider before entering the wonderful world of interior design.

What do you have to study to become an interior designer?

An interior designer is in charge of giving meaning to domestic spaces and work environments. His or her aim is to enhance the interior space with a distinctive character and appropriate meaning, highlighting its inherent sensitivities (light, colour, materials or textures) and also providing it with appropriate conditions of use.

To become an interior designer, there are different options depending on the degree of expertise you wish to acquire. Whatever your profile or skills, if you are interested in this field of design, at Elisava we encourage you to take the step to become the professional you have always dreamed of being.

Interior design courses

If you are interested in the subject and want to learn some basic concepts about room design, an interior design course may be the ideal training for you. On the Internet, you will find an infinite number of on-site and online courses to get you started in the subject. In this sense, we recommend that you evaluate the different options carefully and opt for an interior design course that really offers you certain guarantees.

Likewise, if you want to go deeper into the field of interior design so that, in the future, you can dedicate yourself professionally to it, you will need a more specific type of training. In this case, we recommend that you study a degree in design.

Degree in Interior Design

There are basically two ways to study a degree in interior design: Studying an actual interior design degree or studying a design degree with a metion in Space Design. Both options are equally valid and will qualify you to become an interior designer, but we especially recommend the second option.

Studying a design degree with a mention in Space Design, such as the one offered by Elisava, has the great advantage of helping you to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to work in a wide variety of sectors and to participate in all phases of the design process. Therefore, when you finish your studies, you will be able to specialise as an interior design professional, but you will also have an open door to other design-related professions.

Master's Degree in Interior Design

If you already have a university degree or equivalent and you want to specialise in the field of interior design, we recommend studying a Master's degree in interior design. This is an ideal option for workers or people linked to the design sector who wish to broaden their knowledge of interior design. Although it is not necessary to have work experience to access this type of studies, it is highly recommended that you have some training or skills related to the design of interior spaces.

If you are interested in studying a master's degree, we remind you that our Master's Degree in Interior Space Design will allow you to design, giving character and meaning to both domestic spaces and work environments, adapting to each project to give it functionality and creativity.

Where to study interior design?

Now that you are clear about the different training options that exist, another question that probably comes to mind is where to study interior design. Given the great diversity of options, it can be difficult to make a decision. As we mentioned at the beginning of the post, there are many options, but not all studies can offer you the same guarantees. Therefore, it is important that you value not only the studios themselves, but also the reputation of the centre that offers these studios and the city in which it is located.

In this regard, we would like to remind you that Elisava is the first design school in Spain. In fact, we have been innovating for fifty years through a benchmark educational model that advances thanks to the confrontation of five key elements: the interaction of design and engineering, the teaching community, our classes, the immersion in the world of work and an internal quality assurance system. All this has allowed Elisava to become one of the best schools to study interior design in Spain and an international benchmark.
