Projects from the Master in Packaging Design win three prizes in Verallia’s Design and Creation in Glass Competition

Date:

With the aim to learn to design glass jars that have a first food related use, and that propose a second use, the Master in Packaging Design has accepted Verallia's challenge. To participate in the Design and Creation in Glass Competition, we've decided to base the Minial Packaging Workshop around it, tutored by Martín Ruiz de Azua, Pere Serrat and Eva Minguella.

Of the 41 works submitted to the competition (8 of them from Elisava) the more different and original proposals, according to the jury's verdict, where those designed by our students that on this occasion have managed to claim 3 of the 4 awarded prizes. Thus, "APIARI", by Carla Torres, Marco Arroyo, Ya Yan Dai and Gemma Monllor, has won the first prize valued at 2.500€. In second place, with 1.300 €, there's the project "ALHAMAR" by Garazi Intziarte, Cristina Ródenas, and Denise Szteernberg. And, lastly, "FORASTERO" from students Paloma Saiz, María Alejandra Hernández, Lidia Jurado and Naroa Arlegi, who have earned the third prize valued at 900€.

"APIARI" is a new honey jar, with ergonomic reinvention that offers a new sensorial experience to consumers. The shapes, influenced by the chimney's of Gaudí's La Pedrera and by the nature of the world of beekeeping, they create a pattern of organic and organised silhouettes. For a second use, the students proposed turning the jar into a solar lamp which, thanks to a cap with LED lights, creates a visual and cosy atmosphere.

"ALHAMAR" seeks duality in its use as a container that serves firstly to hold tea as the main product and is then given a second life as a spice container or handmade air freshener. The design is inspired by Granada's architecture and the culture that has transcended since the Nasrid reign.

"FORASTERO" is a packaging born from the need to create awareness around the cocoa universe. In its first use, this jar will carry our brand's products: pure cocoa, cocoa cream and chocolates. In its second use, it will become a collection of stackable cups, with a lid that will serve as a coaster. Without even needing to clean your jar, leave the remaining chocolate and pour your coffee straight in for more flavour.
