The historic Diari de Barcelona premiers a new phase with the header by the Degree in Design student Lídia Jurado


With more than two hundred years of history (since 1792) and after its disappearing in 1993, Diari de Barcelona, one of the first heads of our country, is again a reality. Since April 30th we can enjoy a new generalist non-profit medium. It has new journalistic and multiplatform formats and it is aimed at young public.

The initiative has been driven by Universitat Pompeu Fabra and its students make it a reality. Mainly the Degree in Journalism, but also the Degree in Audiovisual Communication, Advertisement and Public Relations and the Faculty of Translation and Language Sciences of the UPF. 

The renewed medium offers a new fresher and spontaneous perspective, which takes a chance on rigorous journalism with innovative formats. It is also committed to informative veracity and variety. The newspaper is generalist and, from a university sector point of view, totally independent and will focus its contents on five main points: environment, housing, feminism, invisible groups in society and the future.

A new newspaper arisen from a competition between Degree in Design students

The renewed header of Diari de Barcelona has been designed by Lídia Jurado, student of the Degree in Design of Elisava, who has won the public and open competition that was organized between the students of the degrees in design that are offered in Catalonia. A total of eight proposals were presented.

The jury has highlighted the originality of Lídia Jurado’s project and thinks that is the option that best represents the generalist Voice of the medium. According to the winner, her header conveys the values of the newspaper focusing on the news with different eyes. It is because of this that the isotype is represented by an eye with three formats. It is a look that is related to concepts and sensations that the city of Barcelona conveys us, from its people to its structure of its urbanism.
