BCN#01 is the first shirt collection of DonandMerit, an initiative that allows someone to receive potable water at least for a year per each shirt sold.
Nowadays, 800 million of people in the world live without potable water. More than 30.000 people in the world die because of the lack of potable water every week and a 90% of them are kids under five. DonandMerit, a project of Joan Vinyets, designer and dean of ELISAVA between 1998 and 2001, has committed to donate 5 dollars to charity: water for each item of clothing sold.
The design of the shirt comes from a need that Joan, as a designer and anthropologist, had observed and experienced: to find a better place, safer and more comfortable than the trousers to carry the telephone, the wallet and the keys.
In September 2013 and after the first prototypes made with Joan’s mother, the fashion designer Esaú Yori, who has worked with brands like G-Star Raw and Grisby, joins DonandMerit in order to develop the first shirt collection for men. The result is an item of clothing that combines a sophisticated design with functionality, as the location of the pockets, under the arm, guarantees the maximum comfort and discretion.
From ELISAVA we encourage you to collaborate with this initiative and help decrease the lack of potable water in the developing countries.
