Discover how to use the Internet as a tool to boost social and economic growth by studying the Postgraduate Degree in Design of Network Applications and Services.

In the Postgraduate Degree in Design of Network Applications and Services you will learn everything you need to conceptualize and develop a proposal of services and digital business on the Internet.

You will discover how to create people-centered applications and services. Apps, websites and any other type of digital services are an inseparable part of our life. Listen to music, perform banking procedures, get an official paper from the town hall, get a partner or friends, choose political leaders... All these tasks, and many others, depend on services strategically to serve the users, society and companies.

To do so, this programme proposes an applied training offer that covers all the necessary aspects to discover business opportunities or social improvement to develop solutions in an agile and iterative way and achieve effects that are commercially and socially successful. From the strategic definition and value propositions to the planning of implementation road-maps, we will explore the different stages and tasks required. And let’s not forget about the essential technical knowledge to be able to develop technological proposals (for example, data base, programming languages or API integration).

With a very practical approach and through a specialized teaching staff in each of the thematic areas of the programme, the case study and the realization of an applied project, the student will obtain a multidisciplinary training. With this training the student will have a detailed vision of the entire process of creating an interactive project where the business vision, user experience (UX), technology and interface design, occupy the central place.

The postgraduate degree offers the possibility of doing internships in important companies in the sector (eg Everis, BeRepublic, Gamma UX, Optimyzet, Multiplica, Ogilvy), but also in start-ups or companies from other fields such as Ulabox and Diari Ara. After completing this postgraduate degree, a significant number of former students have joined some of the leading companies in the sector in Spain and abroad. Many of the final Master's projects have also been awarded prestigious international awards, funding and scholarships.

The Postgraduate in Design of Network Applications and Services is structured from the following thematic areas that are included in a transverse project that is developed throughout the course duration:

Applications and network services

  • The objective of this thematic area consists of understanding Internet as a collective platform and truly understanding its possibilities in the creation of online applications and services.
  • This module expects to go into detail about the key concepts related to the UX and the strategy. For the most of the web projects, it is necessary, in the first place, to ensure its suitability and, in the second place, its survival from a Business perspective.
  • Knowing with as much detail as possible the Market environment, the value proposition we offer our users, the business model, the objectives and the KPI’s that we will measure, and transmit it from a UX, Visual Design and copy memorables. With all these skills, we can guarantee the greatest of the possible conversions for our Web project.

Tools

  • Different tools for the content management (CMS) will be dealt, each one specialised in a particular purpose (social, commercial, communication).
  • The module will go into detail about the Drupal use and, above all, the Wordpress use, carefully considering the installation, the configuration and the extension using modules and pugins. Additionally, a special attention will be paid to the existing web measuring tools.

Languages, API´s and Mash-Up

  • The objective consists of making the student understand the development dynamics of client/server environments, be able to work with languages such as JavaScript and PHP, and be able to handle information through mySQL databases.
  • The subject expects to provide the student with the basic concepts for the development of website applications. Enabling him to develop by himself almost all the most common services, until he is able to communicate and collaborate with professionals specialised in major and more complex projects.
  • Another main objective consists of getting to know the functioning of different tools and code libraries with the objective of being able to customise and include them in personal projects. The APIs of the most popular web services will be dealt (Youtube, Yahoo, Google, etc.) and the creation of mashups, concluding with the most commonly used social networks (such as Facebook, Twitter, etc). The approach will be completely practical and with a thematic view directed at design professionals.

Creativity, brand and business

  • The objective will consist of providing the students with the capacity of identifying and synthesising the focal point of an interactive product and, at the same time, knowing how to link it to its context: cultural, technological and economic. This connection line makes it possible to establish the plan where any project can be unfold. Some matters such as the definition of business models, product communication and reputation management will be dealt, just like legal aspects that have to do with digital businesses.
