Lola Liñán, student of the Bachelor in Design, takes part in Sónar+D 2026 with her project ‘Divine Device’

Designer Lola Liñán, student of the Bachelor in Design and Innovation, with a specialization in Interactive Experiences, will present her project Divine Device as part of Sónar+D, taking place on June 18 and 19 at the Llotja de Mar (Barcelona). The proposal will be included in the festival’s exhibition programme, where the author is developing a site-specific installation in collaboration with Fundació Sónar.

For this occasion, the student is building a physical confessional that acts as the central device of the piece, a space that reinterprets the practice of confession from a contemporary context mediated by artificial intelligence.

The project reflects on the shift from religious confession to algorithmic confession, questioning how intimacy is voluntarily transferred to AI systems. Through a rosary integrating two chatbots trained on lyrics by Rosalía and Yung Beef, the work creates a scenario in which the user “confesses” to these two digital entities built from contrasting cultural references.

Through humor and irony, Divine Device highlights the apparent empathy of these systems, which do not understand or feel, but process human vulnerability as data. The piece invites a critical reflection on emotional dependence on technology, the illusion of understanding generated by artificial intelligence, and the progressive erosion of privacy in digital environments.
