Interior spaces are the core of the built environment that organize structures and facilitate our lives, activities and social behavior.

In this course, students are introduced to the complexities of developing interior spaces, which requires a special thinking of how people occupy the space, both at the scale of domestic environment and at the scale of the urban environment.

This two-week program will explore the relationship between people and place. The main focus of the course, therefore, is not only on the definition of space in its physical form and function, but in particular on how we relate to the space that surrounds us, the experience of space and its perception that evokes different emotional responses.

In practical experimental studies students analyze spaces and their building elements in order to investigate how they determine human behavior, identity and well being.

The teaching method encourages a flexible, adaptable and creative way of developing design projects and foster the capacity for self-reflection and an individual perspective between space and the user. Students will develop skills of observational and spatial drawing, model making and material investigations alongside comprehensive research and analysis as part of the design process.

By the end of the course students will have learned the fundamentals of the development of spatial concepts and design. Priority is given to learning strategies that foster critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making capabilities. Together with the gained theoretical knowledge students will be able to produce small scale models, sketches and drawings that would deepen the knowledge and provide with the necessary skills for an accurate communication and presentation.
