How to choose a university degree?

In this article we will explain how to choose a university degree. We’re sure you’ve thought about it a lot: a university degree is not something you choose lightly. That’s why we want to help you choose the best option. If you are looking for a university degree in Spain, here is some advice on which are the best options available to you and why.
University Degrees in Spain
Currently, the education system in Spain is regulated and defined by two laws: the Organic Law of Education (LOE) of 2006 and the Organic Law of Modification of the LOE (LOMLOE) of 2020, which introduces some changes with respect to the previous one. Within this framework, the Spanish education system is organised into different stages, courses and levels.
These include university education, which is part of higher education. The university degree or university course provides general training in one or more disciplines and its duration depends on each university degree, ranging from three to five years, although four years is the most common.
There are different ways of accessing a university degree:
- If you have a degree, you can enter university by taking the university entrance exams, the selectividad.
- If you have a higher vocational training course, you can go directly to university with the average mark of the vocational training course. Only if this average mark does not allow you to access the desired studies will you have to take the specific part of the selectividad.
- If you have a completed university degree, you can access the university through the same access route you used the first time or through the average mark of your university degree.
- If you are over 25, 40 or 45 years old and you do not meet any of the above requirements, you can access university studies through a specific entrance exam.
