Elisava and Mango join forces to design innovative material that gives textile waste a second life
In recent months, Elisava has collaborated with the R&D&I team at Catalan company Mango to develop MDTex, a unique, innovative, functional and circular material that gives non-recyclable garments a second chance within the textile cycle.
The project, which was born within the framework of an Innovation Lab with the participation of a multidisciplinary team from Elisava, investigates the possibilities of this innovative material created from post-consumer textile waste.
Its aim is to offer a sustainable solution for the retail industry, replacing conventional materials such as MDF and plywood in furniture and cladding applications. By optimising and improving this material, the aim is not only to reduce the environmental impact of these elements, but also to offer a high-quality option that meets the sector’s safety and functionality requirements.
The project is currently being implemented in Mango stores in Catalonia. The MDTex pilot test has already been carried out in the Mango store in La Roca Village shopping centre, and the material is expected to be installed in the upcoming renovations of Mango’s new outlet store concept.
