Elisava and Benito Urban renew their collaboration to train students in urban design
Elisava reaffirms its commitment to innovation by consolidating its alliance with Benito Urban, a leading company in the design and manufacture of lighting and street furniture on a global scale. This collaboration, which began in the 2019/20 academic year, has generated successful projects in various areas of furniture for the urban space with students from the Bachelor in Design, the Master in Furniture Design, Elisava Alumni, and a team from Elisava Research.
Currently, and for the second consecutive year, students of the Degree in Design are carrying out their Final Degree Projects with proposals that are part of the project Design and City. Urban Sports Equipment of the Future and will design a line of sports elements aimed at users between 12 and 18 years old to encourage the practice of sport in public spaces. The proposals will be aligned with new trends to promote active and healthy lifestyles in the urban environment.
Some examples of these projects are Rail Climb, by Pol Viladomiu; Active Cube, by Alejandro Nadal, and also VORA, an urban element designed to promote games and social relations in pacified spaces, created in collaboration between Elisava Research and Barcelona City Council. VORA was born within the framework of the European research project EIT-Urban Mobility, and today forms part of the Barcelona City Council catalogue as an industrialized product, installed on the corner of the Escola Sagrada Família (2020) and the Escola Estel in the Sagrera neighbourhood.
Elisava and Benito Urban have joined forces to encourage young talent and promote innovation in the design of public spaces. Through this collaboration, students develop creative proposals that can be industrialized and respond to the real needs of the market. In this way, in addition to connecting the academic and professional spheres, this alliance opens the doors to innovative ideas in urban design and sustainability, favouring the integration of young talent in the work sector. Benito Urban brings its commitment to research, while Elisava brings its students closer to the business reality, thus consolidating a collaboration model with a positive impact on society.
