From 12 May to 28 June, the temporary exhibition Novelas y Cuentos de Manolo Prieto (Novels and Stories by Manolo Prieto) will be held at Elisava's Sala Ágora, in collaboration with the Manolo Prieto Foundation and the Enric Bricall Library Reserve Fund. With the aim of disseminating and making visible the work of the pioneer of graphic design, author of projects such as the well-known "Toro de Osborne" (Osborne Bull).
One of the most outstanding facets of the illustrator was his work as a cover designer, particularly for the magazine Novelas y Cuentos, which forms the central body of the exhibition, a popular magazine that aimed to bring literature and culture within everyone's reach.
Novels and Tales compiles some of the most important covers from 1940 to 1957, during which time Prieto provided a weekly cover for the magazine, often with fragile materials that have made them difficult to preserve. The aim is to highlight the collage of mainly schematic illustrations with very simple lines that nevertheless form an "exercise of synthesis and composition" and as an "excellent example of graphic consistency and formal quality".
The exhibition not only features a selection of various original covers but also includes poster-size reproductions by Taller de los hermanos Paadin and Taller 57. It is open to the public from May 12th to June 28th in the Àgora room of Elisava, with a special guided tour on Tuesday, May 17 at 5:00 p.m.
