Elisava at the Barcelona Design Week 2020

Barcelona Design Week is here. It is the unmissable event in Barcelona for design, creativity and innovation with the aim of bringing design to the citizens and mobilizing the sector.

Thus, for more than a week (from 17th to 26th November), the main agents and lovers of design can participate in an extensive programme with more than 100 activities (exhibitions, workshops, conferences), and among them, as every year, there is the organization and participation of Elisava. They are the following:
 

Crafts Now
Wednesday, November 18th

The new edition of Crafts Now, an online conference on crafts and innovation that includes the participation of the student Laura Badia, who will talk about her Final Degree Project Reviving: Weaving ground. The event will be presented by Oscar Tomico, Head of Studies of the Degree in Industrial Design Engineering.

 

Debate: Could the use of plastic be a way of activism?
Wednesday, November 18th (6.30 p.m.)

A debate about nature, the uses and the potential of an often material criticized but with enormous possibilities. With the participation of the Elisava Alumni José F. López Aguilar, professor of the Master's Degree in Product Design, researcher at Elisava Research and founding partner of Oiko Design Office. More details and registration

 

Sideboards - Diagonal Design
From 17th to 26th of November

Students of Elisava participate in this initiative aimed at donating support to local businesses. During all the BDW2020, Avinguda Diagonal becomes a hotspot of creativity with the aim of giving visibility to the local creative talent, linking the design to the business sector and approving the design to society. The students of Elisava have designed the sideboard of the BoConcept design furniture store, at Av. Diagonal, 558.

 

Barcelona Cuida: Designing Serveis de Benestar Social a Les Superilles
Thursday, November 19th (5 p.m.)

Students from the 3rd year of the Degree in Design (Mention in Product Design) present the design project of Serveis Barcelona Cuida: Dissenyant Serveis de Benestar Social a Les Superilles, in which they have worked on four innovative service projects for Barcelona related to informal caregivers, formal caregivers of the SAD network, children from zero to two years old and the use of public space. The students have worked virtually with students from Parsons The New School and the presentation is part of the activities of education, network of higher education centres of design for social innovation and sustainability, which is a question as they have adapted the social innovation projects to the schools of design in a situation of pandemic.

 

Conference Craftsmanship as a form of activity, with Martin Azúa
Monday, November 23rd (6:30 p.m.)

The designer and professor of Elisava Martin Azúa participates in this round table about the change of paradigm from the pandemic, about the craft as an active defence of an alternative way of doing, a way to understand, reflect and act on our environment. A way of activity.

 

MaDe / Material Designers Talks
Wednesday, November 25th (6 p.m.)

A debate with the winners of the award created by the initiative Material Designers, co-financed by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union to promote the circular economy of the young designers of materials. Organised by: Elisava, Polimi and Ma-tt-er.

 

The Table Knife Project
Until November 28th

The Table Knife Project has teamed up Florentine Kitchen Knives with 28 local design studios to create 56 unique table knives. Curated by the Barcelona designer and Elisava Alumni Berta Julià Sala and the FKK team, the project, which has the participation of numerous teachers and alumni of the School (Curro Claret, Ángel Valiente, Goula/Figuera, Jordi Canuda, Elsa Casanova) seeks to raise funds for the Fundació El Llindar through the sale of knives, which you can purchase on the website www.thetableknifeproject.com. The knives can be seen physically exposed in the Cubiñá space in Barcelona during Barcelona Design Week.

 

ADI Medals + Laus Awards
Tuesday 24th (ADI) and Thursday 26th (Laus) November

Finally, Elisava has a number of nominated projects and initiatives in this area. It is the case of the Final Degree Project Entre redes, by Amàlia Puga, which is competing for an ADI Medal; or the cycle of conferences Elisava Masters' Talks, nominated for the ADI Cultura Awards. In addition, 25 projects selected for the ADG Laus 2020 Awards have been submitted or linked to Elisava. Among them, 14 projects of students of Master, 8 of students of Grau and 3 projects of Elisava as a School.


The 15th edition of the BDW is directed by Barcelona centre de Disseny, organized by BCD and FAD Foment de les Arts i el Disseny, in collaboration with the Museu del Disseny, and promoted by the Ajuntament de Barcelona with the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
