From October 7th to 10th, Barcelona hosted BNEW – Barcelona New Economy Week, a prominent event in innovation and digitalization. Designed as a hub for the new economy, this gathering brought together experts from sectors such as Aviation, Digital Industry, Mobility, Sustainability, Talent, Health, and Experience, both in-person and online. Àlex Jiménez Higueras: Design and Circular Economy at DFactory Barcelona

Àlex Jiménez Higueras, founder of Nutcreatives and the furniture editor SURU, participated in activities at DFactory Barcelona, a space conceived as the epicenter for Industry 4.0 development in Spain. DFactory drives the digital transformation of the productive fabric, fostering an ecosystem that promotes sustainability and the circular economy. During his participation, Jiménez presented SURU, his latest project, and explored topics such as sustainable design, lighting, and furniture, focusing on circular economy principles.

Jose F López-Aguilar: Sustainability and Responsible Design

Jose F López-Aguilar, Director of Research and Design at OiKo Design Office and professor at Elisava, spoke in a session dedicated to sustainability. Titled “Sustainability Starts with Design,” his presentation, which took place on October 8th, focused on how product design can minimize environmental impact through efficient use of resources and circular economy materials. The talk also featured Isabel Roig, General Director of BCD, and Ernest Hernández, Design Director at Roca, who emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability from the beginning of product conception.
