Elisava Alumni Eva Díaz Mecchia is the creator of Nido, a sensory stimulation and containment system for newborns that reproduces the maternal womb to solve the emotional and postural problems of premature babies and hospitalized full term newborns.
The idea emerged as a Final Degree Project in the Degree in Industrial Design Engineering from Elisava and was carried out with the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu. Currently, Nido has already been registered as a European patent and is in prototype version and in clinical trials phase.
The product consists of a core for rest and sensory stimulation, whose surface presents an upward and downward movement, and a lateral containment that surrounds the perimeter of the base for the control and positioning of the baby. Both elements are modular and allow the coupling and uncoupling of the components.
For the professional team, this new product implies quality, a reduction in working times and the standardization of a common methodology for the postural control of hospitalized neonates.
Nido is one of the startups from the Elisava Alumni Incubator and is supported by nurses from different hospitals and monitored by the two promoters of the initiative.
