The former student Mario Ruiz receives the National Design Award 2016


We are glad about the award received by Mario Ruiz, former student of ELISAVA and current industrial designer. Economy has awarded Mario Ruiz Rubio in the category of professionals for his “brilliant and consolidated” career path, his “timeless and lasting” style and his international projection.

Born in Alicante in 1965, Mario Ruiz Rubio graduated in Engineering in Industrial Design by ELISAVA. In 1995, he created the studio Costa Design, focused on design and technology and industrial product development. In 2004, he initiated Mario Ruiz Design, aimed at the development of furniture, illumination, office and applied graphics projects, which ended up merging with Costa Design four years later.

Furthermore, the company of electric material Simón has been the other winner in the 2016 edition of the National Design Awards, recently given by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, through the State’s Secretary of R+D+I. This award supposes recognition to the company and professionals career paths of the design sector that are positioned as creators of wealth, innovation and economic and social development of the country.

Finally, the jury has been presided over by the Science, Technology and Innovation general secretary, María Luisa Poncela. It has also been formed by María Luisa Castaño, Jaime Moreno Medina, Pati Núñez Salmerón, Pau Borrás Pons, Ricardo Marzullo and Gemma Bernal Rossel.
