Exploring Family Roles and Masculinity in ‘Pan, pijo y habas’
The project ‘Pan, pijo y habas’ stems from Reigal’s intimate connection to her family roots, which have passed down a tradition from generation to generation. In this work, she delves into the dynamics of a family environment where the male role is central. The practice of breeding and training competitive pigeons serves as a starting point to analyze how emotional ties are built in a setting dominated by rigid gender norms.
Reigal’s connection to this tradition goes back to her grandfather; today, her uncle— the only man among five siblings—has been responsible for maintaining it. He also cares for his grandmother and tends to the family’s garden, embodying a blend of roles that, while traditionally masculine, transcend typical stereotypes.
