Dana Thomas inaugurates the TOUS Talks with a lecture on the future of fashion

Last Wednesday, December 11th, the Auditorium of the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya (COAC) in Barcelona became the epicenter of a crucial conversation for the fashion world. Renowned journalist and author Dana Thomas, celebrated for her books Fashionopolis: The Price of Fast Fashion and the Future of Clothes and Deluxe: How Luxury Lost its Luster, delivered an inspiring lecture on sustainability, innovation, and the challenges shaping the industry’s journey toward a more conscious future.

This event marked the debut of the TOUS Talks, a series of conferences organized by the jewelry brand in collaboration with Elisava Alumni. In this first edition, Dana Thomas explored critical topics such as the fast fashion crisis, the growing consumer demand for ethical and sustainable practices, and the redefinition of luxury in a context where transparency and environmental commitment are becoming increasingly significant.

Thomas emphasized how fashion, as a reflection of society, faces challenges that require integrating technology, innovative design, and responsible policies to tackle issues like textile waste and working conditions in the supply chain. She also highlighted the vital role of emerging designers and educational institutions like Elisava in training professionals equipped to lead this paradigm shift.

The evening served as a moment to reflect on the industry’s environmental and social impact. It offered a hopeful vision of how sustainability can become a driving force for creativity and innovation. Attendees, including students, design professionals, and industry representatives, engaged in a rich dialogue that underscored the possibility and necessity of transitioning to a more conscious model.

With this inaugural event, the TOUS Talks establish themselves as a platform to explore how design can transform the present and shape a better future.
