Alumni Stories – Marina Denia

Where were you born?

Valencia.

Where do you live?

Barcelona.

What did you study during your time at Elisava?

Master’s in Visual Design.

Where do you work?

Studio Aranda Santos.

What has been your career path?

I started getting interested in the world of art direction after studying audiovisual communication. Later, I complemented my studies with a degree in advertising and worked as a designer in an agency. I had always been interested in graphic design and wanted to have a more solid foundation, so I decided to apply for the graphic design master’s program at Elisava. This helped me to have a broader and more experimental view of design. Now I work as a graphic designer in Barcelona.

What is design to you?

For me, design is the ability to shape and personalize your ideas, making others see and feel what you want to convey without the need to explain it.

Who inspires you professionally?

Mestizmx, Lanalunay, Pia Mendaro, Aiga eye on design, the project “esto es un cuerpo” Alessandra Sanguinetti and my friends.

How would you define your time at Elisava?

My time at Elisava helped me to not focus so much on the result and to dare more in the process. It also allowed me to experiment with materials and techniques that I did not know before and that can help me design from a perspective that’s not always digital.

What has marked you the most from what you learned at Elisava?

Learning that I don’t need a computer to design.

A piece of advice:

What you want to communicate is as important as the way you communicate it. It’s very important to work on the idea behind the design.

A future challenge:

Continue experimenting and find new techniques that help me express myself.
