Alumni Stories – Alessandra Carta

Alessandra Carta
Where were you born?

I was born in Sardinia, Italy.

Where do you live?

I’ve been living in Barcelona for the past 3 years.

What did you study at Elisava?

I completed the Master’s in Visual Design.

Where do you work?

I work at an independent creative agency called Helsinki, here in Barcelona.

What has your career path been like?

After graduating in Graphic Design at IED Milan, I started working as a graphic designer at a local agency. Milan’s vibrant cultural and artistic scene played a key role in shaping my design style and vision. Feeling the need to take a new direction, I moved to this wonderful city to pursue the Master’s in Visual Design at Elisava. Today, I work as a visual designer and content creator.

What does design mean to you?

Design is what shapes how we live.

Who inspires you professionally?

One of my biggest references is Jessica Walsh; I’m fascinated by how she communicates deep concepts in a bold and experimental way. I also deeply admire Bruno Munari, one of the first designers I discovered during university. His curious, light and functional approach to design continues to inspire me to create with meaning, not just for aesthetics.

How would you describe your experience at Elisava?

It was an intense phase, full of emotions and challenges, and essential for developing my critical thinking and visual culture. I also got to meet some incredibly talented people from whom I learned a lot.

What stood out the most from what you learned at Elisava?

What struck me the most was realizing that even with the ups and downs of the creative process, hard work can overcome obstacles. I also learned to trust my ideas.

One piece of advice:

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

A future challenge:

To never stop growing and learning as a designer.
