FIX, a project born from the collaboration between Elisava and Girbau LAB, will be in the exhibition ‘Blood & Dust – Putting Waste Material to Good Use’ of the Gewerbemuseum Winterthur Swiss museum as of next March.
FIX is a demonstration of the potential that waste has as a manufacturing material and its possible use in areas such as the building industry, production plants, textile manufacturing, and livestock farming.
Students of the Degree in Industrial Design Engineering and the Degree in Design and Innovation, with the help of the Girbau innovation platform, have designed ‘FIX’, a versatile, useful, and recyclable material created from the solid humid waste from the microplastics of washing machines. This way, new value is generated in these materials and they are prevented from ending up in the environment.
The main goal of the project is to raise awareness about the need to think in terms of sustainability, the environmental impact of microplastics, and move a step forward to a circular laundry.
