‘Mayrit Bienal’ is an event that merges design, architecture and contemporary art, held every two years in Madrid. Through exhibitions, installations and city-wide activities, Mayrit positions the Spanish capital as a creative hub for emerging talent.
Elisava Madrid was presented as the “Official MAYRIT School 2026”, with a role focused on:
- connecting education, design and innovation with the creative industry;
- contributing young talent and academic projects to the biennial program;
- acting as a creative hub and meeting space for activities, talks and collaborations;
- strengthening the educational and multidisciplinary dimension of Mayrit.
Driven by this academic synergy, we highlight the following three activities:
IBEX36. Cultura material = Valor global
Exhibition
The proposal is situated at the core of “supermodels” as infrastructures of domination that do not represent the world, but organize it for exploitation. Under the title IBEX36, directly referencing the Spanish stock index, the museum is absorbed as just another corporation: number 36. Its collection ceases to be heritage and becomes a store of value, ready to be activated, calculated and speculated upon. By translating each object into a financial asset, the project makes visible the logic of neoliberalism: nothing remains outside the market. Everything is measured, everything is compared, everything is sold. IBEX36 is not a critical representation, but the exposure of a system already on going, where culture has been definitively subordinated to the logic of accumulation.
