The lamps included in this exhibition have been designed by first-year students of the Bachelor in Industrial Design Engineering, as a project of the subject ‘Aesthetics and Design’, from the years 2022-23 and 2023-24.
The goals of this proposal are to understand how to define, conceptualize, solve and implement in a prototype the multiple functions of a product, in this case, a lamp. Its final aim is to create a lit environment in a specific space to do a specific task, but we should not forget its function when it is not on, when it must be a relevant object in a space.
In this project, students faced real challenges, like fabricating the pieces, the connections between them, or the best superficial finishing touches. They also faced usability problems, choosing, for example, where to put the switch, how to facilitate changing the position of the lampshade, or what material they should use to nuance the bulb’s light. Always considering the appropriate aesthetic according to the context and the person using the product.
