More than 200 students from the Undergraduate Degree in Design and Innovation present the exhibition ‘Chairs on the street’ in an open-air exhibition on La Rambla in Barcelona, in collaboration with IKEA. This collaboration between Elisava and the Swedish furniture and decoration company has been carried out through an academic project within the framework of the subject ‘Fundamentals of Product Design’, from the first year of the Undergraduate Degree in Design.

The students received a brief from IKEA members, who challenged them to reinterpret the IVAR chair, one of the company’s most iconic products.

The project consisted of altering the shape or use of this chair with the intention of improving, adding, replacing or questioning one or more aspects of the design taking into account a series of conditions, such as that the product still had a seat, was removable and Only a series of recyclable materials could be added.

The exhibition on La Rambla is held to share its results with other students and teachers, residents of the neighborhood and any passerby, in order to generate a dialogue with the city of Barcelona and democratize design culture.
