Elisava participates in several talks, round tables and exhibitions at Barcelona Design Week

A new edition of Barcelona Design Week (BDW) is coming, the annual event for design and creativity in Barcelona created in 2006 by Barcelona center de Disseny.

This edition is number 18 and marks the coming of age of the event. Furthermore, it is expressly associated with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals declared by the United Nations, and aims to launch a global initiative to promote SDG number 18, which has become the motto of the meeting: Design for Human Future. A transversal initiative that turns the BDW into the first design week that proposes an SDG in this area.

These are the main activities of BDW 2023 organized by -or with the participation of- Elisava:

Presentation of projects by students of the Degree in Design and the Degree in Industrial Design Engineering at Elisava in collaboration with the Swiss company USM Modular Furniture. For a year, the students have worked in collaboration with the company team to carry out their Final Degree Projects, studying different applications of the USM system, with the aim of creating new furniture solutions focused on the challenges of the future.

Mies van der Rohe Pavilion

Common Design Studio is an online learning project that connects students and academics from different higher education institutions such as RMIT University (Melbourne), London College of Communication (London) and Elisava (Barcelona) together with experts from the private sector and academia . This year, the project has focused on the relationship with shared air. Now, the resulting proposals from the students can be seen in an exhibition that shows the capacity of design to bring together communities from different parts of the world and propose more sustainable futures.

Elisava (La Rambla, 30-32), Atri (1st floor)

Exhibition that brings together the results of the project of the same name promoted by the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Disseny Hub Barcelona, and that brings together young talents from various creative disciplines to design new small-format operas. Among them we find the work of the students of the Master in Scenographic Design of Elisava, tutored by Sebastià Brosa.

Round table presentation of issue 199 of Mosaic magazine, dedicated to Generative Artificial Intelligence. With texts by experts from the UAB, UPC, ELISAVA, the UOC and the Università di Pavia, it is a volume that talks about the problems, fictitious and real, associated with Generative AI.

Elisava designers and teachers Josep Novell and Josep Puig are bringing back the Jackie lamp, which they designed twenty years ago, and are offering a new version with new materials from Alma Light. The presentation will have the presence of a series of artists and designers who will make personalized interventions with various light filters. Among the guests, Ramon Benedito, Juli Capella, Júlia Esqué, Lluís Morillas and Martí Guixé, among others.

First conference of the third edition of this series of conferences that addresses the current state of design through the professional experience of various prominent figures in design, communication, architecture, art and innovation. It is inaugurated by the British Alice Rawsthorn, design critic and author of books such as Design as an Attitude and Design Emergency.
