Next September, Elisava will host the new edition of the EPDE (Engineering and Product Design Education) conference, the latest in a series of annual congresses that bring together representatives from education and industry interested in sharing new perspectives on design and engineering education.

These meetings provide a forum for educators, professionals and students to discuss current and future educational issues in product development, engineering and industrial design with members of industry.

This year marks the 25th edition of the event, focusing on “Responsible Innovation for Global Coexistence”. This theme has been chosen because design and engineering have innovation at the heart of their professional practice. Innovation can come from a technocentric impulse, pushing technology to new limits without considering why or how this affects us as a society and as a global community.

The current environmental crisis and lack of improvement in areas such as pollution, biodiversity loss and climate change demand that our efforts focus on new ways of cohabiting the spaces we share, whether they be other cultures, other species or the diverse ecosystems that sustain us.

For this reason, we want to dedicate the E&PDE 2023 conference to consider and expand the professional and pedagogical role that designers and engineers have in the commitment to Responsible Innovation for Global Cohabitation. A commitment that will enable us to create more inclusive, fair and pluralistic futures.
