02 Nov 21 — 02 Nov 21
Location Elisava (La Rambla, 30-32) Sala Aleix Carrió (1ª planta)
Schedule 19:00h.

The renowned Belgian artist Brecht Evens visits Elisava on November 2nd to give an hour-long lecture open to the general public, organised by the Master’s Degree in Illustration and Comics, in which he will take a look at his professional life as an artist, interpreting the keys to his personal work.

Brecht Evens is one of the most powerful illustrators and authors of graphic novels on the contemporary European scene. His work stands out for its exceptional use of colour, creating detailed, bright images that depict scenes full of light and life. He sweeps colours, watercolours and permanent markers in different layers without prejudice to create his own unique style that is reminiscent of the work of George Grosz, Matisse, Chagall and David Hockney.

His first work, Un lugar equivocado (Sin sentido, 2011) won the Willy Vandersteen award in 2010 and the Audàcia award at the Angoulême international comic festival in 2011. He is also the author of Los entusiastas (Sin sentido, 2012) and Pantera (Astiberri, 2018), a graphic novel that brought him international acclaim. Evens, who has lived in Paris since 2013, also illustrates for the press in media such as De Morgen, Télérama and Kiblind.

The lecture will be given in Spanish and English and requires prior registration (at the bottom of this page).
