GUIDED STUDY: 2.5 HOURS FOR EACH ECTS
The ECTS credits establish 25 hours of student work, of which students will receive 7.5 of classes in attendance (between master classes and seminars) and the rest being work outside of the classroom. ELISAVA has decided that for each ECTS credit, students will be given 2.5 hours of guided study, of individual or group tutoring in the self-learning process. In this way, the School guides and accompanies students in their learning process.
TEACHING THE SUBJECT “INTRODUCING STUDENTS TO UNIVERSITY”
In the first term of the 1st year, ELISAVA gives its students the tools they need to gain the knowledge and realistically approach their degree plans (professional opportunities, etc.)
HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHING STAFF
The more than 870 teachers and collaborators who give classes in ELISAVA have great teaching experience. We work with renowned professionals aware of the real operation and the latest developments arising from their respective fields of activity, which enhances the students’ contact with the professional world.
ELISAVA COMMUNITY: STUDENTS AND FORMER STUDENTS
The more than 2,200 students in the School do not only come from Catalonia, but from the rest of Spain, Europe, Asia and America. ELISAVA is an exciting place for studying, working and learning. The variety of the disciplines in the School’s educational offer allows students of different disciplines and on different levels to share, learn and take part in multidisciplinary projects.
The School also keeps its doors open to its former students through the Elisava Professionals association (EP!) in order to enhance the human, community and professional development of the former students and enable a close relationship to be maintained with the School, and fluid communication with the other professionals.
MULTIPLE CHOICE IN SELECTING SUBJECTS
ELISAVA has created modules of optional subjects with a whole series of related subjects that give students the chance to acquire a Training profile. In the 3rd and 4th years, 2/3 of the subjects are of this nature and consist of a series of subjects that give great training in the chosen area. Each Degree offers several training profiles.
INCENTIVES IN INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES
The School has always encouraged students to stay in other countries to receive other knowledge, points of view and ways of understanding and experiencing society. In the 3rd year, students can go away for one or two terms, which creates a highly flexible system that allows students’ mobility. Stays in other international universities are transferred in 20 optional ECTS per term.
ELISAVA has established agreements with more than 50 centres in Europe, the United States and Latin America, and takes part in different programmes of exchange, cooperation and research with the foreign academic institutions in order to contribute to exchanging knowledge and improve the teaching of the disciplines taught in the School.
ELISAVA forms part of the Cumulus Network, which brings together over 100 renowned institutions from around the world in order to promote international cooperation. It also works with the Council on International Educational Exchange, a non profit-making organisation appointed by the State Department of the United States to administer international student exchange programmes.
The School is also a member of the International Association for Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) and takes part in the Lifelong Learning programme.
ENCOURAGING KNOWLEDGE OF LANGUAGES
ELISAVA trains its students so that they might face the new European framework of university studies with all of the necessary skills for moving around internationally. Different strategies are therefore developed:
All new students have to pass an English language test that will determine whether they have to raise their level or whether they can study another language.
In the 3rd and 4th years there is a specific subject of English terminology on each of the Official Degrees.
At the end of their studies, students can ask for tests to certify their knowledge.
Knowledge of languages and technical English will be included in the European Supplement to the degree.
EXCLUSIVE END OF DEGREE WORK
In the 4th year, the last term is conceived exclusively for the development of the End of Degree Work, which is the last academic exercise that the student performs in the School and at the same time, the first which looks outwards towards the professional world, given that the competencies of the profession are evaluated.
PERFORMANCE OF PERIODS OF PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE IN ENTERPRISES AND INSTITUTIONS WITH TUTORISED MONITORING
In order to help 4th year students become professionalised and find work, in the 1st or 2nd term, students can choose to study optional subjects or two periods of practice in enterprises and institutions full-time, 40 hours a week, which transfer the 20 ECTS of optional subjects.
These periods of practice will be monitored and evaluated constantly by a tutor and will appear in European Supplement to Qualification as curricular experience for the student. Through the periods of practice in the real professional world, students have experience of great value, which will allow them to put everything they learn in ELISAVA into a context, and gives them practical knowledge in professional exercise as added value to their training.
For companies, periods of practice are an opportunity to evaluate the students who may later come into their professional teams.
Companies and institutions which have collaborated in these periods of practice have been, for example:
- Degree in Design: Danone; Editorial Planeta; Emiliana Design Studio; FAD (Foment de les Arts I del Disseny); Figueras International Seating; Hewlett Packard; J.W. Thompson; Nissan Iberia; Tandem.
