How can we take advantage of new technological means to transform illustration and comic-books? What are the current languages and tools of the artist?
We live in a moment of growth of graphic languages and, especially, comic-books and illustration. We do not refer only to its success as a market aesthetic or as a cultural product, but to the historical development of these languages personality. The new technological means are definitely transforming the profession of draftsman, illustrator and editor. The range of possibilities increases both creatively and in the aspects of editing, production and work distribution (tablets, apps, webapps...). This is how a movement of expansion in cultural consumption of products related to graphic expression is taking place today, as well as a migration of both the role of the creative and the public towards digital media.
The focus of the programme combines an experimental facet with the deepening of several languages and current tools that portray an expanded professional profile of the artist. In addition, at present, the professional world of the draftsman and of the graphic creative covers the international field, since technologies allow the absence of borders in the markets. The Master offers the keys to develop in this new situation, understanding the world as a global market and dissecting the business network (customers, representatives, gallerists, publishers...) around the sector related to graphic languages. These coordinates are complemented by a series of meetings with international professionals from the active sector.
One of the most important objectives of the programme is to directly connect the students with the professional field, not only prepare them, but introduce them directly in the experience of dealing with the client through projects and assignments that serve as a gateway to the professional world. Therefore, in the Master students will develop several real projects for recognized publishers and companies, which allows them to professionally disseminate their work and assume the real parameters of the relationship with the client, since the task of a graphic creator is, in essence, an act of communication.
The programme, half practical and half theoretical, provides the necessary tools, both technical and creative, so that each person finds his way in the current situation of illustration and comic-books, in a vertiginous moment of technological and social changes.
